Isla del Sol (Isla Titicaca), Bolivia

September 16-17, 2018

On the third day of my trip in Bolivia, I arrived to Isla del Sol (4000m) and spent a night. The island depends on tourism which started over ten years ago but still remains natural. The only way to get around the island is by foot. My goal was to hike from the north to south, but unfortunately there has been tension between the different indigenous communities and the North access has been closed to tourism. I stayed in Yumani, which is the south area of Isla del Sol and where tourists are welcome.

Isla del Sol was an enjoyable place, but I had higher expectations and was disappointed of not being able to cross to the North where most of the fascinating archeological sites are.
